EMFACE Results and Duration: Rejuvenating the Muscles Beneath the Skin
This is the full text of the column our two doctors coauthored for “Beauty INSIDE” in the November 2024 issue of Noblesse.
As beauty looks increasingly beneath the surface, so does skincare. Our two EMFACE key doctors explain how to address the deeper changes behind skin aging.
How does EMFACE lift through the muscles?
Beauty care is increasingly concerned with overall well-being as well as appearance. Maintaining healthy, attractive skin means looking beneath the surface, where muscles and tissues also change over time. EMFACE addresses both the skin and underlying muscle to lift from within. At Dong-An Joongsim Clinic, our approach to aesthetic medicine combines refined results with current medical technology, aiming for natural, safe outcomes and care centered on the patient. Because EMFACE combines low discomfort with visible improvement, patient satisfaction has been particularly high. Drawing on 20 years of experience in Korean aesthetic medicine, Dr. Soyoun Koo and Dr. Chang-Hwan Cho explain what distinguishes it.

Why have you brought the full range of BTL devices into the clinic?
Patients once favored conspicuous results, even when they looked artificial. Today, they increasingly want subtlety. Our aim is to improve the face and body while helping patients feel comfortable and satisfied with the change. BTL's devices fit that approach. EMSCULPT NEO, EMSELLA, and EMFACE can be used without anesthesia and address underlying contributors to aging.

How would you introduce BTL's new EMFACE device?
While many lifting devices mainly reach the dermis or fascia, EMFACE treats skin and deeper facial muscle simultaneously in a two-in-one approach. In the dermis, RF currents generate heat through the movement and interaction of ions and molecules. This heat stimulates collagen and elastin to soften wrinkles. HIFES acts on the muscle layer to improve tone and density, helping restore contours affected by aging.
Who would you particularly recommend it to?
EMFACE can give a more youthful appearance with little discomfort and no anesthesia, making it particularly suitable for people who have delayed lifting because of pain concerns. A session takes around 20 minutes, with no downtime, and you can return to normal activities right away, which helps with a busy schedule.
How can patients get the most from EMFACE?
Because the treatment works by strengthening underlying muscle, we recommend four sessions 1–2 weeks apart. The effect is greatest around 3 months afterward and lasts at least 6 months. Treatment needs to follow facial anatomy, so a thorough consultation matters. Discussing your concerns and agreeing on the appropriate approach can help improve the result.
