Sculptra in Apgujeong, Gangnam, SeoulPLLA collagen stimulator · Galderma

Sculptra stimulates your skin to make new collagen. Its PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) particles gradually break down while activating fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen. Rather than adding immediate volume, it restores firmness and fullness over time.

Restore volume
with your own collagen,
built over time

Sculptra is a collagen stimulator made with PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid). After injection, the particles gradually break down in the skin, stimulating fibroblasts to produce new collagen.

Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume directly. This collagen stimulator encourages the skin to produce its own collagen, improving skin quality over time. It has been used in clinical practice worldwide for over 25 years, with applications beyond the face, including the neck, backs of the hands, décolletage and knees.

Hollow cheeks, loose skin, dull texture: what this treatment improves

Firmness

New collagen supports loose skin from within. PLLA particles stimulate fibroblasts to rebuild this underlying structure.

Natural-looking volume

Volume gradually returns to hollow areas as new collagen forms around the particles while they break down.

Texture & radiance

Encouraging the skin’s own collagen and elastin production helps improve texture, radiance and overall skin quality.

Neck & hands

The neck and hands can also benefit from collagen stimulation. We adjust the amount and injection depth to suit each area.

Firmer body skin

PLLA is distributed evenly across larger areas to improve skin density and firmness on the buttocks, upper arms and abdomen.

Lasting change

Macrophages and fibroblasts continue to respond to the particles over several months, sustaining collagen stimulation over time.

Collagen treatment planned by your doctor
Treatment by doctors with Sculptra training and certification

Results depend on how treatment is planned and performed. We take time with every patient. A doctor handles your consultation and performs your treatment personally.

  1. Planned by a doctor who has published research comparing collagen stimulators

Dr. Chang-Hwan Cho is the first author of a 2026 review in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology comparing the mechanisms of six collagen biostimulators, including PLLA, PDLLA, PDO, CaHA and PCL.

  2. Choosing a product for each facial area

At the ASLS conference, Dr. Cho presented strategies for choosing collagen stimulators for the upper eyelids, temples, forehead, anterior cheeks, nasolabial folds and neck lines.

  3. Teaching collagen stimulation internationally

Dr. Cho has lectured on collagen stimulators, including PLLA, at ICAP 2025 in Indonesia and an international conference in Xi’an, China, in 2026.

Patient experiences: volume that returns gradually

I look more refreshed, and still like myself

Losing volume around my temples and cheekbones made me look tired. After Sculptra, I noticed the hollow areas filling out little by little. The change was gradual, and I looked more refreshed without losing my usual features. That was what I liked about it.

The volume comes back gradually

My cheeks and temples had started to look hollow as I lost facial fat, so I tried Sculptra. Afterward, I had some mild swelling and soreness, but we could review the results and adjust any areas that needed more treatment. The volume built up gradually, and I liked how naturally the balance of my face improved.

A gradual change that doesn’t feel overdone

I chose Sculptra to restore some of the volume I had lost. We checked the changes in my cheeks first, then adjusted the areas around my temples and jawline as needed. Because the changes happened gradually, I could follow the progress, and the result felt less overdone.

I look like I’ve had a good rest

My temples and cheeks had become more hollow, so I had Sculptra to restore some volume. Over time, the fullness gradually returned, and my skin seemed smoother too. I liked looking well rested and refreshed rather than like a different person.

How it rebuilds collagen and volume
Your doctor explains how it works

How does PLLA stimulate collagen? The response starts within days of injection and continues over time. A doctor who teaches collagen stimulation at Korean and international conferences plans the injection layer and amount for each area.

Illustration of the skin and underlying tissue
  1. PLLA injection

After planning the treatment, we distribute the product evenly beneath the skin.

  2. Immune cell response

Macrophages surround the PLLA particles and shift toward a regenerative response.

  3. Fibroblast activation

Fibroblasts become more active, producing collagen and elastin.

  4. Collagen formation

As the particles gradually break down, new collagen takes their place.

When results appear and how long they last

  1. Immediately after treatment

    An initial increase in fullness

The water injected with the product and temporary swelling can make the area look fuller right away.

  2. Within a few days

    Some of that fullness subsides

As the water is absorbed and swelling settles, the original hollows or lines may become visible again.

  3. Over the following weeks

    We assess the collagen response

We review gradual changes in firmness and volume before deciding whether another session is needed. The timing and extent of the response vary from person to person.

Common questions about Sculptra results
Answers from our doctors

How do I choose a Sculptra clinic in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Seoul?

With collagen stimulators, the treatment plan and the doctor’s technique both matter. Check who conducts the consultation and treatment, whether authentic products and supplies are used, and whether other treatments can be combined to suit your face. At Dong-An Joongsim Clinic in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Seoul, Korea, Sculptra is performed by doctors who have completed product training and certification. Your consultation and procedure are both handled by a doctor, with time to discuss your individual needs.

How is Sculptra different from a regular filler?

Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume directly. Sculptra encourages the skin to make its own collagen, improving firmness and overall skin quality.

Are the results immediate? Can it treat nasolabial folds?

Results develop gradually over weeks to months rather than producing immediate fullness. In the nasolabial folds, new collagen gradually helps restore volume to hollow areas.

When should I assess before-and-after photos and reviews?

Sculptra works gradually as collagen forms, so results are better assessed a few months after completing a course rather than immediately after an injection. According to the manufacturer, collagen stimulation begins within days and continues for over two years. When reading reviews, check how many sessions the person had and how much time had passed.

How often will I need Sculptra?

It depends on your goals. The manufacturer’s protocol recommends sessions 45 days apart, ranging from 1–2 to 3–6 sessions. After your initial course, your doctor assesses firmness and volume to decide when further treatment may be appropriate.

Why does the area look less full a few days later?

The water mixed with Sculptra and post-injection swelling can create temporary fullness. As the water is absorbed and swelling subsides, the original hollows may become visible again. This early change does not determine the final result. We assess your skin and collagen response over the following weeks.

How are the amount and cost decided?

The extent of hollowing or wrinkles and the correction needed determine the amount and estimated number of sessions. We explain the plan, product amount and cost for each area before treatment. The same area can require different amounts in different people.

Can Sculptra be used beyond the face?

Yes. Treatment areas include neck lines, the décolletage, backs of the hands, knees, buttocks, hip dips, upper arms and abdomen.
