CoolSculpting is a cryolipolysis device developed by ZELTIQ in the USA to reduce fat through freezing. It grew out of research begun in 1999 by Rox Anderson and Dieter Manstein's team at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
Fat cells are more vulnerable to cold than skin, nerves and muscle. Patented cooling sensors and gel pads direct cooling to the fat layer, reducing fat cells while leaving surrounding skin, blood vessels and nerves intact. The remaining fat cells can still grow if you gain weight, so weight management remains important after treatment.
Reduces the thickness of belly fat and love handles. Suction draws the fat layer into the applicator, where cooling triggers natural cell death in cold-sensitive fat cells.

I gained weight, but not around my sides!
I had two pads, one on each side. The treatment took about 30 or 40 minutes, I think, and all I had to do was keep the pads on. The doctor came in beforehand to plan the treatment! … I actually gained weight after a month of working from home, eating a lot and barely moving. But, surprisingly, it didn't go to my sides… ZELTIQ was the perfect choice for me.
My lower abdomen looks different
I'd been exercising and had lost weight, but my lower belly hadn't changed, so I tried fat freezing. At first I felt cold and a pulling sensation, then the area gradually went numb, so the treatment itself was manageable. I had some tingling and discomfort afterward. My shape did change, though it wasn't a dramatic difference.
The cold gradually became less noticeable
When the fat freezing on my abdomen started, the pulling and cold felt quite intense. The sensation dulled over time, but the massage afterward hurt again. I had some swelling and numbness afterward, so I'm watching how things develop rather than judging the result right away.

How does cold reduce fat? Your doctor, who has taught for ZELTIQ Korea, selects the applicator and number of treatments for each area. Cooling then works through four stages.
Gentle suction draws in the bulge and cools it to a controlled low temperature.
Cooling acts on fat cells while leaving the skin, muscle and blood vessels intact.
The crystallized fat cells begin apoptosis, a process of natural cell death.
Over about 3 months, immune cells clear the dead fat cells and the fat layer becomes thinner.
